A Little Nostalgia:
I stumbled across this old article from a 1996
edition of
Network World
that focused on Macromedia's
new
development tool, called BackStage.
Server-Centric Solutions Inc. -- then known by our
first name, Canadian Information Systems Inc. -- was featured in this article.
Server-Centric Solutions was one of the first
Canadian companies to successfully implement E-commerce in Canada.
(We then moved-on to Pfizer's Global
Financial Data Warehouse, initially based in Groton, Connecticut and then
re-located to LaJolla, California. This data warehouse uses Informatica
to Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) data from
source systems into the data warehouse.)
The Grand&Toy Windows-based 'OrderPoint
System', and then Grand&Toy's Internet version of
OrderPoint were both developed and
implemented by Server-Centric Solutions, in close collaboration with Grand&Toy, in the
mid-nineties.
Here is a quote from the 1996 article:

1996:
. . . when E-Commerce was in its infancy, and we
still got excited by tools that are quite primitive by today's standards . . .
a brief walk down
memory lane.

Endorsements:
“Jim excelled in his position at Domtar as
the Chief Architect Consultant for an Oracle application that provided an
enterprise business solution - Customer, Sales & Marketing,
Cost/price/quotation, order entry, invoicing and shipping standard direct
cost, finished goods inventory, and roll stock usage. Jim had the in-depth
Oracle and business knowledge to create a world-class application. Domtar
couldn't even replace it with SAP because there were too many functions
and features that weren't available in SAP. Ten years later it was still
running, and was so well architected that it was easy for my team to add a
Scheduling Package to make it a truly excellent integrated application.
Jim has a combination of business and technical knowledge that make him a
pleasure to work with. Even under tight deadlines, he keeps his cool and
continues to work effectively to successfully complete his project. He is
one of the best!”
September 9, 2007,
Linda Chadwick, Associate Director, DMR Consulting
worked directly with Jim at Canadian Information Systems Inc.

“Jim is a versatile consultant who
delivers results. He blends technical expertise with strong people
skills. He has a friendly communications style, and freely shares his
hands-on development expertise. Jim builds trust with business clients,
and is a natural leader within a team. I worked with Jim on a
development project in 1992 and we have stayed in touch since then. He
was the Application/Data Architect/Development Lead for a project which
successfully delivered a complex Direct Costing Control System for a
large Canadian Manufacturing firm. I was a Sr. Developer in the team.
The project was a redevelopment/conversion effort from a Tanden non-stop
system to a custom Oracle, PL-SQL, C running on HP-UX.”
June 25, 2007,
Paul Beattie, Associate Director, DMR Consulting
worked directly with Jim at Server-Centric Solutions Inc.
“ I had the pleasure of working closely
with Jim for over two years on a project to develop and implement
Pfizer's data management solution for screening data. He is a truly
multidimensional IT professional. While possessing strong technical
skills, he also has excellent communication and customer relationship
management skills. He integrated quickly with our team, rapidly becoming
at highly valued contributor. In particular, he excelled at working with
our customers to translate their business requirements into technical
solutions. Jim was one of the best people I worked with at Pfizer!”

Gabe Peterson, Senior Project Manager, Pfizer
worked directly with Jim at Pfizer

“Jim has a valuable combination of technical
skills (software development, database analysis) and people skills. He is
comfortable in the computer world and also in the world of human communication.
He has always dropped everything to help me when I've had a technical issue that
needs to be investigated. I know that if there is a way to solve a problem,
he'll be able to do it. He is a valuable resource for Pfizer and I would hope
that Pfizer recognizes this and retains his services.”
July 5, 2007,
Sue Merritt, Advisor, Pfizer, Inc
worked with Jim at Pfizer

“Jim and I worked on an informatics
application, where he was part of the development team and I was part of the
business team working together to scope requirements, perform testing, and roll
out the application. He is detail-oriented but also understands the higher level
strategy and goals. Jim is customer-focused, spending time to understand the
business needs and then ensuring that the development is streamlined to those
needs. I found him to be a collaborative team member and a pleasant colleague to
work with.”
July 2, 2007,
Christine Loh, Senior Principal Scientist, Pfizer Inc.
worked directly with Jim at Pfizer

“Jim and I began working together at Pfizer in
January 2004 to develop, test, and implement data management solutions for High
Throughput Screening (HTS) scientists. Over 3 successful years, Jim continuously
demonstrated a superior customer service approach in addition to outstanding
technical expertise. As a result, robust and flexible products were provided in
record time. Given his positive attitude and commitment to high quality, Jim's
involvement on any project is an indication of future success and achievement.”
June 28, 2007,
Max Parker, Senior Scientist, Pfizer Inc
worked with Jim at Pfizer

“Jim was very responsive to customer issues and
showed great skills at resolving issues that would have delayed the application
deployment.”
June 25, 2007,
Andrew Tillinghast, Consultant, Pfizer, inc.
worked with Jim at Pfizer

“I had the opportunity to work with James a
number of times on the Sights project. He is very analytical and a good problem
solver. He always completed his tasks on schedule. James is a team player and is
'fun' to work with. I hope to work him in the future.”
